Selecting the right pop up canopy

Pop-up canopies are a welcoming way of making sure you’re comfortable while outdoors. Whether you’re hitting up the beach, going on camping trips, or even hanging out in your backyard, an instant shade shelter can provide you with whatever you need for any event. Before you can enjoy your tent, you have to make sure you are choosing the right one. Choosing the right pop up canopy can be very challenging. Here are some considerations you need to make before coming to a final decision.

What is a pop up canopy?
A pop-up canopy is a special type of large tent designed to be set up quickly and provide moderate shelter during outdoor and indoor events. Nearly all pop-up canopies feature a four-leg design with expandable sides for fast and easy unpacking, placement, setup and re-packing. As their name suggests, all pop-up canopies have a canopy (or roof) made typically from canvas of another commercial-grade synthetic fabric. Users can choose to add material to each of their canopies’ sides to increase shelter, privacy and advertising space.

Identify Your Needs
The very first thing you need to consider when choosing a pop-up canopy tent is your needs. Will this tent be used for a business or personal use? Do you want it for indoor trade shows or will it be used for outdoor recreational purposes and festivals? Perhaps your pop-up tent will be used for all of the above! The answer to these questions is unique to your particular case and will determine the size canopy you need and the materials it should be made out of. Consider both short-term and long-term use.
If your event is indoors, you don’t need to have a particularly strong canopy as it won’t be exposed to particularly harsh weather conditions. If you’ll be attending an event outdoors, it’s important you choose a canopy that can stick with you through thick and thin.

Size
The size of your pop up canopy will completely depend on your individual needs. If you’re purchasing one for a small fair or trade show then a 5x5 feet one should be enough. If you want to offer guests shelter at a big friendly gathering in your back garden or for the outdoor activities, you may want to opt for a larger size such as a 10x10 feet model. While we would love to suggest you go for the larger size, it will have to suit your individual needs and space.
The two sizes mentioned above are just the most commonly found with online retailers, however, there are other models that have different measurements. Shop around to find a pop up canopy size that suits you.

Aluminum Vs. Steel Frame
Aluminum frames are lighter and rust-resistant. This is an excellent choice if you need your pop-up canopy tent to be portable and protected against harsh environmental elements. For instance, if you plan on taking your pop-up to the beach, an aluminum frame will make it easy to carry and protect the frame from the saltwater.
A steel frame, on the other hand, is heavier but also more durable. For this reason, it is considered to be more stable. This is a great option if you will not have to carry your pop-up far to its destination and need something that is sure to withstand conditions such as high winds.

Canopy Material
Choosing the right canopy material is just as important as choosing the frame itself. The two most common types of material are polyester and vinyl. Both of these materials come in an indoor version and an outdoor version. Vinyl is a heavier material that can hold up to wear and tear. Polyester is much lighter, making it easier to transport from place to place.

Ease of use
One of the biggest advantages that pop-up canopies bring to users is their overall ease of use. Unlike expensive rentals or “some assembly required” shelter options, pop-up canopies require very little labor to set up and pack up. These all-in-one shelter solutions don’t have extra components that require time and effort to attach. Instead, pop-up canopies simply need to be expanded, set to the right height level and placed on even ground. With a team of 3 or more people, a pop-up canopy can be set up (or packed up) in a matter of minutes.
